Intel 13th and 14th-gen CPU damage could be permanent
Kaplan Gore--one of the most experienced consumer class action firms in the country-- is investigating a potential class action against Intel for its knowing sale of potentially defective 13th and 14th-gen ("Raptor Lake") processors, both directly to consumers through authorized retailers ("Boxed Processors") and to system integrators (OEMs) for sale to consumers in pre-built systems ("Tray Processors").
Reports of instability and flaws in Intel's processors date back to at least December 2022. In July 2024, Intel finally put out an advisory that it had determined that elevated operating voltage is causing instability issues in 13th and14th-Gen desktop processors. Intel has promised a microcode fix, but, as many technology websites have reported, elevated voltages causing the processor to operate outside of safe boundaries can cause irreversible degradation.
While Intel recently announced an extended warranty on processors bought from authorized retailers by customers who build their own PCs (Boxed Processors), those who purchased their Intel CPUs as part of a pre-built system (Tray Processors) have not been promised anything by Intel. Further, an extended warranty may not be sufficient compensation for the millions of Intel customers who have experienced issues and problems from defective CPUs for months and will be without useable PCs while their defective CPUs are replaced. To make matters worse, Intel is still refusing to recall these processors or withdraw them from the market.
If you have experienced computer system instability and/or crashes as a result of your Intel 13th or 14th-gen processor, you may have a claim.
